I never thought Barbie was anti-men, if anything, it gives a unique perspective in regards to gender roles by flipping the power dynamics of the genders in Barbie Land. Male audiences can relate to all of the Kens being considered as second class citizens largely due to having absolutely no political representation in Barbie Land and also see the parallels when it comes to the power disparity of the Kens in Barbie Land and women in the real world. Yes, the movie criticizes patriarchy but it also doesn’t agree that a matriarchal society would be any better when it comes to achieving true equality in society.

I finished uni in June 2015, so this was me in June 2016..... I was depressed and frustrated from working part time at a holiday camp with a horrible boss, but I kept persevering.... in the end I had to just earn something so was forced to stop searching and ended up in factory job for 4 years nearly, which I hated. When covid occurred, I was eventually made redundant and returned to looking again (following the odd time when I would look while at the factory) and still nothing came of it, despite having a few interviews but being unsuccessful. Eventually, I decided to return to university to take an MA in a different field, but with overlaps that I could adapt too. I finished this postgraduate last October (nearly 4 months ago at the time of writing this comment) and am now in a different location finding a position with my new found skillset. I have had just shy of 20 interviews in last 3 months, but still haven't made the final cut and just under 4 months left at my current lodging until tenancy runs out. If I can't find anything by then I may have to return to my hometown, which I dislike since there's no opportunity there at all and don't want to face my past frustrations.... I hope something comes along for me since I just want to work in a role that's suited for me. Edit: Lucky for you that your boyfriend has stood by you, two former relationships of mine have been lost due to this endless search of mine; one was owing to my mental health that took a beating from the trauma I has in 2017, the second was simply because she got frustrated that I lost the factory job owing to covid and nothing came along after. Fortunately, I have a supporting and loving partner at the time of writing all of this comment, who seems much more patient and understanding than the last two..... time will tell how this will all play out.
